An expert group published these days finds that there is currently no scientific evidence that BPA affects human reproduction.
The 4,4-methylethylidene, more commonly known as bisphenol A (or BPA) is a synthetic chemical compound used in the industrial manufacture of polycarbonate plastics and type of epoxy resins. There are polycarbonates in many common objects (CDs, sunglasses, some plastic bottles, baby bottles) and epoxy linings in cans or dental amalgam. Bisphenol A is also included in the composition of PVC and certain plasticizers in the thermal paper in the manufacture of fire-retardant chemicals that can retard the burning of plastics and textiles.

Bisphenol A is currently classified as a substance reprotoxic Category 3, that is to say, judged "concern for the fertility of the human race" because of "possible toxic effects" but unproven on reproduction. The risk assessments conducted at the request of international health agencies have led to define an acceptable daily intake of 50 mg of BPA per kilogram of body weight per day or 2.5 mg per day for an individual of 50 kg.
However, stresses Inserm collective expertise in a published June 3, there is currently no scientific evidence that bisphenol A (BPA), affects human reproduction. While some adverse effects have been demonstrated in animals, too few epidemiological studies have evaluated these effects in humans. Studies have shown that BPA may cause early puberty, changes in the uterus, vagina and ovary in female rodents and lower sperm counts, testicular hypotrophy and hypertrophy of the prostate in male rodents .
The researchers acknowledge that the transmission of the effects of BPA offspring of rodents might suggest that altering the genetic information by an epigenetic mechanism.
The experts from Inserm require further research on animal models more relevant to humans, and human cells.

The use of antidepressants in the class of SSRIs, including paroxetine and venlafaxine, increasing the risk of miscarriage and the combination of different classes of antidepressants also increases this risk
